License Agreement (Non-Commercial):
By using this software, you are hereby subject to the terms
about to be outlined in this license agreement.
You are hereby granted a license to use this software for 21
days for evaluation purposes. After the 21 days, the software
must either be registered or use must be discontinued.
The Shareware evaluation version of ASh may be copied freely (in
fact it is encouraged), providing that: (A) There is no charge
for the distribution of the software (excluding a nominal
copying fee not to exceed $5.00); (B) The program has not been
altered in any way; and (C) All of the files are distributed
(see FILELIST.DOC for a listing of the files). Note that if you
paid for a shareware disk of software or CD-ROM, you DID NOT
register ASh. Registration of ASh must be done directly through
Accutek Software.
The Accutek Shell may not in any way be reverse engineered,
decompiled, disassembled, or in any other way altered to another
form, other than that in which it is distributed by Accutek
Software.
Registered Users License Addendum (Non-Commercial):
Upon registering, you will receive a personalized key file, this
file is in no way to be copied or distributed other than a
backup copy for archival purposes.
Simply put, registered versions of ASh are to be treated "like a
book." Meaning that only one person or computer may be using or
running the software at any given point in time. If the
software is to be moved to another machine, all of the software
must be moved to that machine, and the software should be
removed from the original machine.
This software license may not be transferred to any other person
without first notifying Accutek Software, and all copies of the
software must be transferred with the license and the original
copies removed.
License Agreement (Commercial):
If the software is to be used in a commercial environment or by
a government agency, it must be registered before use. In this
environment, registration is done on a machine basis, not a user
basis. Contact Accutek Software for additional information
concerning site licensing and network installations.
Warranty and Disclaimer:
Neither Accutek Software nor R. Marc Lewis may be held liable for any
damage or loss of data, lost profits or time from the use or inability
to use this software. By using this software, you accept and
understand this policy and waive any and all liability to Accutek
Software and R. Marc Lewis.
This software is provided "as is," and Accutek Software nor R. Marc
Lewis make any claims as to its ability to perform a specific task
other than possibly consuming hard drive space. Beyond that, you use
this software at your own risk.
Author's note: Remember, this is an Alpha Release, and though I have
been using it on my machine since its conception (and not lost any data
because of it) your milage may vary.
Support:
Currently, I am offering support through any of the following methods:
Support BBS - Currently, I am not offering any BBS support, that
however will be changing by the summer of 1994. It will be
announced through updates of this file, and through all of the
regular channels.
Internet - Send e-mail to marc@ctshp.celtech.com This is my
work email address, and I check it every day of the week.
You can also post a message on any of the comp.sys.os.ms-dos usenet
news groups, and there is a chance I will see it there.
Snail Mail - You can send bug reports and questions to Marc Lewis at
2508 5th Avenue, Suite 125, Seattle, WA 98121. Expect about a 2-3
week delay before recieving a response when using Snail Mail.
If you discover a bug in the program, or would like another feature
added, please be as descriptive as possible, as I will try to reproduce
the bug here on my end in order to fix it. Include the program which
produced the bug (i.e. AShFM, AFMT, ADSKCPY, EBCL, etc) and if possible,
try to include what you were running under (i.e. DESQview, Windows 3.1
shell, DOS version, processor type, etc), what you believe caused the
bug, and any other information which you feel might be pertinant.
I will try to tackle each of the bugs as they come in and release
updates as often as I can, but don't panic if you don't see a new
release a week after you report the bug....
All new releases will be posted on Usenet first, under comp.sys.binaries
heirarchy and uploaded to wuarchive and possibly a few other FTP sites.
I will also post on a few of the local (Seattle area) BBS's. In the future,
I will probably try to get some sort of national distribution set up, but
thats still unreasonable for me right now.
Installation:
The unregistered version no longer has an installation program. To install
ASh, create a directory on your hard drive (like C:\ASH), and copy all of
the files from the BOTH ZIP files into it. Edit you autoexec.bat file to
add the C:\ASH directory into your path. You should also set an
environmental variable in you autoexec.bat file called ASH to the directory
where you placed ASh (i.e., SET ASH=C:\ASH).
The registered version does have an installation program, and takes care of
these things for you, as well as installing the registered utility set.
Upgrading:
If you are upgrading from versions prior to v0.03α, you will need to delete
all files from the old version. Also, Stowage Vessels have changed in
structure, so you will want to UnStow all of your previous Stowage Vessels,
and then re-create them with the new version (this only applys to versions
0.02α and earlier).
Usage Notes:
One of the primary design goals of ASh was to make it simple enough for even
the most novice user, but powerful enough to satisfy even the most advanced
user.
One thing you should take particular note of is that ASh was designed to sit
on top of DOS all of the time. When a few testers first started using it,
they would quit ASh to run programs, and use it only to copy and delete
files. This defeats the purpose of ASh. When ASh runs, it consumes only
about 6.5k of RAM (under DOS 5/6 with UMB's, about 10k without UMB's), and
it is completely unobtrusive to any other program. The command line in ASh
is just the same as if you were typing in commmands at your normal DOS
prompt.
If you get stuck, you can get a help index by pressing <Ctrl-F1> from the
main file panel. From most funcitons and windows, you may press <F1> to get
help on that function and how to use it.
